Kyle and I listened to a South African news broadcast last night about the West's recent response to what's been happening in Tibet. This seems to be a very sensitive issue which is getting a lot of heated attention and negative publicity around the world - but I assure you the picture that your Western newspapers are painting is far from an objective one. I felt that because this is my blog spot and the one place I can vent online; it was time people heard China's perspective.
I think what the West is failing to mention in their broadcasts is that these monks in Tibet are not practicing their rights to Freedom of religion; they are living like fanatics - terrorists even. Did you know that the 'rights' they are fighting for are to be able to carry their ceremonial swords wherever they go and being entitled to, when they die, cut up their body parts and (depending on their 'rank' in this life and the next) scatter these body parts all over the hill tops and rivers? Hence the reason why buddhists don't eat fish - because fish in turn eat their flesh. Did you know that the Dali Lama himself has separated himself from this small sect of his religion and say that if they do not stop their rioting then he will step down as their leader? Perhaps you are unaware of the fact that this 'upheaval' in Tibet started when these peace loving monks threw petrol bombs at civilians, into shops and at policeman. Kyle has seen footage for himself of this small minority group over turning policecars. The monks have killed almost 100 Han Chinese since these riots started, and yet the West is focusing all their attention on the 10 Tibetans who have died. Do you know that the security policy in China is that no one be allowed to carry a weapon? Not even policeman carry arms because you can imagine the sheer chaos if 1 billion people started carrying swords? You simply cannot allow people to scatter body parts wherever they choose because of health reasons, plagues, and diseases. Are the western newspapers even reporting this logic? Because of this negative spin placed on China's stance with Tibet we hear that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced he will not be attending the Beijing Olympic's opening ceremony; and President Bush has announced that America will boycott the Olympics this year unless China ceases such 'human rights violations' in Tibet. 'Human rights Violations'? If America is so concerned with human rights issues then they should turn their attention to Zimbabwe and do something about the SERIOUS human rights issues that have been violated there! What about the human rights of their very own people in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit - when their own people were rioting in the streets because their own government shamefully didn't look after them? America and the world swept that 'ordeal' under the carpet - but what is happening in Tibet is being splashed around the news in a very biased way just because it's China and they're on the eve of a very important history making event. I am interested to know whether Bush would take Alaska demanding to be a separate country very lightly. Tibet has been part of China for over 700 years, it's absurd to demand they be allowed to become independent. We already know the West's firm stance on terrorism in their own countries, why is what is going on in Tibet any different? It's no longer freedom of religion, it's hurting other people.
What a tragedy it would be if the world didn't come to the Olympics and missed out on all tat China has to offer. All that they have been preparing for. Now that would indeed be a tragedy.
I am grateful that this government is not soft - that they have taken a firm line in Tibet against a small minority of extremists who want to rob the entire Chinese population of their safety and health. You just have to read Kyle's account below of the sheer size and scale of this country to know the effect that this small group of extremists have on the masses. The price of letting them do and be whatever they want, practicing their religion how they want to practice is just too high. China faces different issues that the rest of the world doesn't know a thing about. The West should get back to running their own countries and fix the problems there, and let China get back to doing the excellent job it is of running theirs. I am not indoctrinated; I am just more acutely aware of the way these people's minds work and they do things very differently. I understand that more than any Western journalist. So despite the fact that this post might spark huge debate, those are my thoughts.
